For the last two weeks, my attention has been completely stolen by our new rescue dog, Sara.
And honestly? I am not sorry.
Bringing a rescue dog home comes with a lot of adjustment. There are new routines to learn, trust to build, and plenty of time spent figuring out what makes her feel safe and comfortable. There have also been a lot of cuddles, treats, walks, and moments where I have done absolutely nothing productive because Sara was being too cute to ignore.
It has been a wonderful break from editing.
After spending so much time inside a manuscript, staring at the same scenes and questioning every word, sometimes stepping away is exactly what the story—and the author—needs.
Editing can make even the most confident writer start spiraling.
Does this scene move quickly enough?
Have I used that word too many times?
Is the tension strong enough?
Do these characters need to talk about their feelings, or do they need to stop talking and make some gloriously bad decisions?
You know. The important literary questions.
Spending time with Sara gave my brain a chance to rest. Instead of obsessing over sentence structure, character motivation, and whether I had accidentally softened an alpha male who should absolutely know better, I got to focus on helping a sweet dog settle into her new home.
But the manuscript has been waiting.
Patiently might be the wrong word.
It has probably been sitting there judging me.
The characters are frozen in place. The villains are still plotting. The romance is still simmering. And somewhere inside those unfinished pages, somebody is undoubtedly waiting to argue, threaten someone, fall in love, or lose several pieces of clothing.
So, as much as I have loved my break, it is finally time to get back to editing.
I am returning with a clearer head, a rested imagination, and a new four-legged coworker who may or may not respect office hours.
Sara will probably continue to be a distraction. She will likely demand attention at the exact moment I finally fix a difficult scene. She may even become my excuse for taking a few extra breaks.
But I am ready to open the manuscript again.
Ready to face the tiny details.
Ready to tighten the prose.
Ready to make the tension sharper, the emotions deeper, and the heat worth the wait.
At least, I think I am.

Legion works because the romance is not simple. This is not a clean love triangle where everyone gets to behave. Legion’s unrequited love gives the story a different kind of ache, and that ache is the whole damn point. It is sad, heart-wrenching, uncomfortable, and weirdly relatable because most of us know what it feels like to want someone we cannot fucking have.
What Hit
💔 Vanna’s emotional struggle. Legion and Vanna have a lot in common, but she is devoted to Dean. That tension pulls at the fucking heartstrings.
🧸 Ace. Dean and Vanna’s kid is sweet, funny, and feels very real on the page.
⚙️ Vanna calling Mia her kid. Mia is Viper and Rosita’s daughter, but in one highly tense scene, Vanna claims her as hers to protect. That moment says a lot about how deeply Vanna has become part of the MC family.

What Pissed Me Off / Fell Flat
🌶️ Some of the sex scenes did not feel earned. They were not bad, but the dream-sex angle made parts of the spice feel more like fantasy insert than emotional payoff.
⚡ The flashbacks at the beginning were rough. I understand why they are there, especially if someone is reading this without the first two books, but for a longer book, the first half felt weighed down by looking backward.
🥊 Viking confronting Legion about his girl. I know it sets up the next book, but the shift felt abrupt. One minute Legion is earning a little of Viking’s respect, and the next Viking is laying him out in the parking lot with a simple stay away.

This book worked for me because Legion’s story hurts. He is drawn to Vanna’s kindness for reasons that make sense, even when the relationship itself is impossible. The book taps into a kind of longing that feels more real than the standard fairytale romance. I still read romance because I want the fairytale, but Vanna and Legion’s emotions feel messy, human, and painfully believable. I cannot wait for Viking’s story and to see where this series goes next.

There are parts of Legion that did not feel fully earned, but I still think this book is fucking great. In a lot of ways, this story feels more believable than a typical romance novel because the emotions are not clean. How many of us have felt a connection to someone we could not fucking have?
I read because I want the fairytale, but the emotions between Vanna and Legion feel more real, more complicated, and therefore more relatable. It is a unique take on what a romance novel can do, especially inside an MC world where loyalty is supposed to be everything.
There were a few scenes that were hard to fucking read. The book deals with child sexual abuse, and while that reality is devastating, it is also real.
